best meal announcement!!

thank you so much to everyone who left reviews! i completely appreciate your help, and i apologize i couldn't do the same as much as i expected due to personal matters. that said, the entries i've listened to in your selections/national finals have been amazing so far! :)

after a review period of (number) days, i can finally reveal the meal/entry that received the highest rating; the entry competing in the main culinary event (genrevision)!

based on votes from 7 heads of delegation, the best meal is...

espada com banana, which represents the genre música madeirense!

did you know eating fried fish with fried bananas is a thing? as an indonesian myself, i'm more familiar with rice staple food so discovering this meal was news to me. the fish in this dish, espada, is called black scabbardfish in english, and i don't think they have this fish in southeast asia haha... either way, eating espada com banana in its authentic form is on my wishlist now!

as there are two songs under this genre, i shall be specific; here is the winning song!

joão borsch - pólvora!

joão borsch (he/they) is a 21-year-old singer-songwriter born in madeira, portugal (he currently resides in lisbon). not only do they sing, but they also play multiple instruments, including drums! joão has released two full albums so far, with "É Só Harakiri, Baby" being his most recent in may 2023.

"pólvora!" was released ahead of the album in september 2022. i do not speak portuguese unfortunately, but from what i've gathered this disco-pop banger is about an explosive, passionate love (and possibly some more stuff?). also, apologies for the lack of information beforehand, but the music video contains flashing lights in some scenes so please be careful!


by the way, to the eurovision enjoyers in here... joão will have a song in festival da canção (portugal's national selection for eurovision) next year! we have no idea if he'll be participating as well, but i myself am looking forward to whatever he has in store! :D
